Product Development: A Personal Journey
During lockdown, I became acutely aware of the trend of dog thefts for profit, which upset me. A heart-wrenching story about a dog named Buster being stolen in broad daylight ignited my determination to create a lead that could help prevent such tragedies.
I committed myself to designing a secure lead, refining multiple prototypes over a few months. By March 2021, I received an invitation to appear on Dragons’ Den, which initially terrified me. However, I recognised this as a chance to share my vision with the world.
Fast forward to December 2023: although sales have fluctuated, our Stealth Anti-Theft Dog Lead continues to provide peace of mind to dog owners everywhere.

So this morning my Meg Heath Dog Leads don’t let go lead was a blessing and I’m so glad I bought it .
Out for quick walk with my dog before got too hot he was being his usual stubborn self putting his brakes on because I wasn’t crossing the rd in the exact spot he wanted to cross so tripped up kerb like a Wally and fell over if I’d had normal lead chances are I’d have lost my grip and don’t no if he’d have run off.

Perfect well done and thankyou for designing such a great lead with carabiner.The lead is my perfect length,feels more positive to walk him with ,and the carabiner doesn’t clank about and it holds in a lovely position through the two D rings when walking 100% better than his old lead. The handle is so comfy and although i.ll never feel safe if I am attacked this will hopefully buy me valuable time if I am.

My custom ‘theft deterrent’ dog lead came yesterday and I have to say it is brilliant! It is so well made and I now feel that my dog is much more secure than what he was using his old lead. I opted for a longer length lead (185 cm) so that I can attach him to my dog walking belt. It’s perfect! I love the width of the lead too as I am able to hold it firmly in my hand as well if I want to. I initially spoke with Sarah and ordered some samples before deciding on which lead to go for. She has been really helpful and I’d just like to say ‘thank you so much for such a great product’.

I have recommended this lead to everyone I know! I have a strong husky so I asked for the lead to be slightly longer and padded wrist strap, they accommodate this without a problem. Even though I had a custom order it was delivered within the week, I couldn’t believe it! The lead is incredible, I thought it might be heavy and rigid but that is not the case at all. Hi. I have tested out the anti theft dog lead today & have found a flaw. I like to wrap the handle part around my hand twice due to my dog being really reactive with no warning & I have to keep her on a short lead at times also. So I think that the handle end of your lead needs to be a little bit longer to enable the double wraparound. This helps me to keep the dog closer to me but it was hard work due to the steel wire inside, obviously as its not made for this.
The other part I was uncertain of was the little pivot pin in the carabiner. I don’t think I need to worry about it though as it seemed to be fine. Although I did fit a stainless steel ring around the two parts just in case it did let go & then I’d have prior warning, rather than having a loose dog, which is a runner with a high prey drive, which I don’t want getting loose. All seemed fine though.
Other than these small points, all seems well & it’s really light to use. I can see the logic behind the design and it’s appeal, and it will be very reassuring for a lot of people who are scared of the threat of thieves.
It would be quite to difficult to take a dog from its owners using this lead if used properly.
I’d just like the handle a bit longer and a noticeably chunkier carabiner/pivot made from stainless steel. I would happily have paid extra if these were optional.
Other than that, top marks for making something that solves a problem that really shouldn’t exist.

Hi Carl,
This feedback is brilliant. I want to take the opportunity to reply to your review, so as to help others in their decisions and allay yours and others fears.
First of all the handle and wrapping round your hand – The handle is a standard length and I would only make it longer as a special custom request by a customer. This lead is made at an optimum length of 1.25 metres and is not designed to be wrapped around your hand.
The swivel carabiner – when I sourced these swivel carabiners, my first question to the supplier was ‘what is the strength rating on these carabiners’. They sent me the strength test video that I also showed to you in a private message. These carabiners break at 5.2KN, which is around 530 kg. I think they officially rate them at around 400 kg.
Having said that, I completely agree with your review, sometimes it’s nice to be able to shorten the lead as and when the circumstances dictate and also I agree with your fears about things breaking, I am the same.
So, I hope I helped you last night by chatting through this and also anyone reading this will hopefully have a couple of questions answered too.

My anti-theft leads arrived today, I have just road tested them with my four dogs who are all different shapes and sizes, I was very impressed by them, great job!
Initially I was a little concerned that the carabiner would be a bit hefty for the two smallest dogs, a chihuahua and pug, but no problem at all. Also the fact that the leads are slightly rigid meant that we got tangled up a lot less than we usually do!
As someone who usually walks four dogs alone, the safety features made me far less stressed than I have been these past few months. I love the fact that I can get to my pockets without worrying about a lead slipping off.
