What is waterproof webbing?

Waterproof webbing is a soft plastic covered webbing, a relatively modern material used in the making of dg collars, leads and harnesses. It is often referred to as vegan leather or leather alternative due to its robust and firm feel.

Waterproof webbing looks great and is perfect for use in wet weather, wet environments and so on.

It keeps its’ shape, tangles less, doesnt get soaking wet, and stays comfortable in your hand.

What waterproof webbing is made from?

Technically, waterproof webbing has a strong webbing core, usually polyester, nylon or polypropylene, coated in a polymer layer giving the webbing its wide range of colours and finishes such as the hex or hexagon finish.

The outer coating is what makes this webbing waterproof. Because of its’ coating, this type of webbing can be wiped clean and dried with a towel, is resistant to smells, mould and bacteria. Unlike fabric webbing, it dries quickly and doesn’t become heavy or stiff after use.

How waterproof webbing behaves in everyday use?

This webbing stays grippy in your hand even when wet, doesn’t go slimy, and doesn’t crack like leather might if not looked after.

What is Biothane and how does that fit in to the picture?

Biothane isn’t a material type, it’s a brand name. Biothane is a specific, trademarked product made in the USA. Biothane has become a bit like saying Hoover! People often use it to describe waterproof webbing when it may not technically be Biothane. So all Biothane is waterproof webbing, but not all waterproof webbing is Biothane.
